Bloomington’s Westwood Elementary School principal Carolyn Hartwigsen was recognized with a 2013 Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA) Division Leadership Achievement Award. The award honors principals for leadership efforts to improve education.
Hartwigsen has been the principal at Westwood Elementary School for the past seven years. Under her leadership, the school earned the 2012 MESPA Minnesota School of Excellence designation. Hartwigsen also fostered community partnerships to improve student learning including the Reading Buddy and Pen Pal programs at Augustana and Transfiguration Lutheran churches in West St. Paul and Bloomington.
“Carolyn has a gift of developing relationships through her strengths of empathy, kindness, and respect for all,” said Curt Carpenter, a Minnetonka principal who nominated Hartwigsen for the award.
